The Project
Currently the municipal council of Rotterdam is considerably homogeneous and clearly does not represent the heterogeneity of this melting pot of cultures. For the municipality of Rotterdam – and many other Dutch municipalities alike – it is rather challenging to attract a diversity of people for membership of the municipal council. The Erasmus Governance Design Studio is asked to generate insights about people’s motivations for such a position and design instruments to attract a broader audience accordingly.
EGDS activities
As of yet the analysis phase of the project has been concluded. During the analysis phase a literature study, interviews with current and former council members, members of local political parties, as well as a diversity of citizens were conducted. Additionally, a large-scale panel survey study with a representative group of Dutch citizens was carried out – the report thereof can be found via the link below.
